Class notes from October 26th, 2010

We spent the majority of the class on our voacb quizzes, but afterwards we completed activities 26 and 27 on pages 36 and 37 in your text books.

For homework, have at least two examples for the usage of both of the following phrases:

tener lugar - to take place
darse cuenta (de) - to realize

Additionally, study your crossword and crossword clues for the second part of the quiz tomorrow, which will be exclusively on the crossword vocabulary.

Tarea para el jueves

Trueno - be sure to post both assignments for Thursday. Since not a whole lot happened in class today due to the length of the quiz you can post the HW.

Prueba

BE AWARE: YOU HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED ALL MATERIALS YOU NEED TO SUCCEED TOMORROW. IT'S UP TO YOU NOW. IF YOU WERE LISTENING IN CLASS FRIDAY YOU WILL REMEMBER THAT I RETURNED THE CROSSWORD CLUES SO THAT YOU WOULD STUDY THEM. BUENA SUERTE.

We started class by going over some house keeping.  Blog posters will be disignated after class, so pay attention!!  We where then asked Cuales son tus metas en la vida? or what are your goals in life?  Mis metas en la vida son sacar buenas notas y hacer 20 flexiones de 21 de deciembre.  we then practiced vocab and preterite verbs on the mini whiteboards.  Then we wrote all of vocab down on pieces of paper so that we could study all the words.  The vocab is on page 58 in the text book.  At the end of class we all took our quiz on preterite verbs.

not an ex-student of mine but pretty good

If you do a YouTube search you will see a number of creative ways of doing this - some better than others. This one is bizarre but pretty good.

La Cucaracha

INDIVIDUAL challenge: Make your own regular and/or irregular preterite movie to share. If you get technological help from somebody else on campus, give them credit in the movie credits. Extra Credit and a public posting (blog or otherwise) for the best movie.

¡¡OJO!!

*YOU CANNOT MAKE A 3 ON DAILY CLASS SPF ASSESSMENT IF YOU DO NOT BRING YOUR TEXT AND PW TO CLASS.
*Remember, too, that class blog poster will be designated at the END of class and that these will be graded, so take good notes on class happenings in case you're THE CHOSEN ONE.
*ALSO, (sorry, Jace), from here forward to even the playing field and because Twitter posts don't end up in your Polleverywhere.com account, only cell phones can be used to text in answers on Polleverywhere questions.
*Finally, remember that if you want to raise your grade on your last oral assessment you will come to office hours tomorrow and I will walk you through individually a few important improvements, and then you will record.

Martes 19 de octubre

Today in class we went over a few house keeping things. The most important is SPF which stands for
Support-help out class mates and be kind to one each other.
Practice-use your spanish in class
Focus-pay attention, listen in class, don't interrupt Jobe or other kids.
Each is worth 5 points so its very important to do!

We started off by using the white boards and Jobe asking us question, if you go to page 58 there are a whole page of words you should know, well if you do know them it will help you a lot.

Then listened along on page 30-31 for act.15-16 and filled out the blanks while listening. The jed's are in the book at the top of each exercise.
We then did pages 11-12 in the PW if you need help look on 30 and 31 in the text book.
These pages are important to study and understand because there will be a quiz on them on Thursday
And that was all :)

Prueba el jueves

IMPORTANTE!:

*From here forward I will be designating the class blog poster AFTER class, and I will count these blog posts 10 points total. To get full credit they will need to be posted the same day as class, because it doesn't help people who are out to post them a day or two days later. You will also need to take notes during class on important links and details (vocab, grammar, etc) in order to maximize your scores. Today's blog poster will be Katrin (I just changed that from Maya)

*Not having textbooks/Practice Workbooks in class = Not a good idea!

*el jueves en clase hay una prueba sobre las páginas 11-12 del Practice Workbook (from here forward, "PW")

The Last Few Classes

So the past few days we have been working on the preterit tense.

We have been spending time working on conjugations and have been using verb charts from conjuegemos.com and http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/SLC/chart_pret.php.  The past two classes have been much ado about the chapter vocabulary. And that silly story time.

Here is some of the vocab we always go over in the beginning of class.

Los binoculares                                         Binoculars
La brújula                                                Compass
La linterna                                               Flashlight
El repelente de insectos                            Insect repellent
El saco de dormir                                     Sleeping bag
La tienda de acampar                               Tent
El bosque wood,                                      Forest
Escalar                                                    To climb (a rock or mountain)
La lluvia                                                  Rain
La nieve                                                 Snow
Nubes                                                     Clouds
Hace Calor                                              Hot
Hace Frio                                               Freezing
Hace Fresco                                           Cool
Hace Sol                                                Sunny
Viento                                                   Wind

21 Act. 17.

miércoles, 13 de octubre de 2010

Tarea para el jueves, 14 de octubre

*Para el jueves, PW (Practice Workbook) páginas 7-9 - THE TEXT WILL HELP WITH THIS IF YOU USE IT..
IF YOU WANT AN 'A' YOU WILL HAVE TO SHOW ME SOME MASTERY OF THE PRETERITE TENSE TO NARRATE IN THE PAST. IF YOU ARE CONTENTED WITH A 'B+' OR BELOW YOU CAN FOCUS ON PROPER PRONUNCIATION, VOCABULARY, COHERENCE, AND FLUENCY.

Se prohibe

A couple of housekeeping notes:

*Laptops are permitted, for the time being, in my classroom, but must remain shut until and unless we are doing Web-based work and I have expressly authorized the opening of said laptops. That goes for the designated blog poster, as well. Blog posting will have to be done after class and be based on your class notes, written old-school style with pen/pencil and paper.

*Don't forget that CAREFUL COMPLETION OF the homework posted after our last class is key to your success on TOMORROW'S QUIZ.

Thought you would find the following Google Voice transcription of Critter's oral exam entertaining. Yep, Critter called me "sweetie." Gracias, Critter.
