Damas y caballeros - I am in the process of going through your blogposts and am having some difficulty discerning which posts are from which weeks. I will ask that you do as Conner did and go through and label each post by week (Week 2 Oral, Week 2 Writing...). Additionally, to maximize your scores, you should have your photos labeled or captioned to indicate what they represent...). Thanks for taking care of this PRONTO.

Final Product Requirements

Your Final Product Must Have the Following:

*A Title Slide (Required: Written in Spanish your name and something about what you're teaching; Recommended: Audio Saying "Hola, me llamo ___________ y hoy les voy a enseñar...")

*Well organized presentation of the material all in Spanish (be careful with spelling - if you have spelling errors this doesn't reflect well on your effort)

*A quiz at the end (gap fill, with answers supplied after a pause or click) to test the viewer's comprehension of what you have taught).

Other than that, it's up to your creative impulses. Some projects will require more slides or more text than others....

Reminders

A gentle reminder, as some folks have slipped into procrastination mode on blogposts again, that full credit can only be achieved if your posts don't all come in just under the deadline wire. I will start posting blogpost grades for weeks 2 and 3 hopefully as early as tomorrow.

FALSE!!! Go through them yourselves and you should recall that we have at some point in time talked about almost each and every one of these terms. There will be a word bank and it will mostly be matching from the circumlocutions.

Algunas cosas importantes para esta semana:

• Chuck and Ty: one of you didn't put your name on your travel syllabus and the other didn't turn it in. I will bring it in tomorrow to resolve this - until and unless we figure out whose it is you both have zeros on your travel work. 
• Jace and Ty - neither of you has done the recording on Miguel's job search. If you look at the posts on this site you will see a model answer from Chris Fitz that I posted for Joe's benefit. You both need to be studying this TONIGHT and take it by NO LATER than Tuesday. These grades are vital to your well being. 
• To the folks who were unable to finish the Chapter 5 Quest, YOU MUST appear at office hours this week ready to rewrite your composition. This is the only section of the exam you will be allowed to repeat. Until you do that, your grade stands. The quests are graded and are in the grade book, along with a number of grades I had fallen behind on due to prolonged illness but spent the better part of today catching up on. No quest corrections accepted - we will be going over the quest Monday in class. To see how well you listened up during the review, I will give you one of the sections as a quiz at the end of class. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
• Winter term students who are staying on but have not yet forwarded to my email (npjobe@gmail.com) a receipt for purchase of our textbook currently have a 0/10 in my gradebook. The later I get this receipt, the less opportunity you have to raise this score. I suggest a very rapid resolution. I will do a textbook check in class Monday. 
• Due to missed time from the snow storm, the character of the Chapter 5 oral test has changed - I don't want to spend two whole class periods preparing and presenting when we're already well behind where I'd like to be. Due to the very strong scores on the last chapter video (when you took notes and then called in to Google Voice a summary), I will try to help you by repeating that style of oral assessment. Take good notes in class Monday or Tuesday (depending on when we get to the video) and you will likely do well.

Before giving you your assignment, I want you to make note of the screen capture below. While your chapter glossary defines "solicitar" as "to request", the first definition is, as I mentioned yesterday, and as you can see in this screen capture, "to apply for" (synonymous with "presentarse"). While I like this textbook, sometimes I disagree with the first translation they choose.

• Añade algunas canciones (digamos al menos 10 canciones) de tus artistas favoritas del mundo hispano/latino a tu playlist. OJO - Se prohibe escoger las mismísimas canciones de tus compañeros de clase - está bien si ALGUNAS de las canciones son iguales, pero muy pocas, por favor. 
• Haz clic en "Share This Playlist" y sigue las instrucciones para añadir el playlist a tu blog. Debes elegir "Post to Sidebar"...

Blogposts de un mínimo de 75 palabras que contestan las siguientes preguntas (20 puntos - ortografía y coherencia):

* ¿Cuáles son los ingredientes de una buena amistad? (constar de = to consist of) - 3 frases completas mínimo.
* ¿Cuáles son las cualidades de un buen amigo? (un buen amigo es alguien que...) - 3 frases completas mínimo.
* ¿Cómo es tu mejor amigo/a? - 2 frases completas mínimo.
* Explica un malentendido que has tenido con un amigo y si lograron resolver el conflicto y hacer las paces o no. - 4-6 frases completas. 

Cap. 4 Assessment Options

As indicated in class, you will have a variety of choices for your Chapter 4 Assessment, which applies to travelers as well as to non-travelers. Regardless of which you choose, your assessment will count 50 points.

You may choose ONE of the following assessments:

1. iMovie/MovieMaker project based on either of the two songs at http://www.phschool.com/atschool/realidades/hiphop/L3_4.html (Prentice Hall put Capitulo 5 at the top of that link, but it is a mistake, because the content is clearly from Capítulo 4).
2. A Google Voice recording, completed in front of Jobe (yes, these WILL be proctored), in which you THOROUGHLY narrate the story in as much detail as possible regarding the "malentendido" (from Cap. 4, "A Primera Vista 2" in your textbook).

Due dates are as follows:

1. For Option 1 above, Friday, Feb. 11th by 8 am (regardless of whether your class meets that day) - they must be both uploaded to YouTube AND embedded on your blog by that time and no later. If you need direction on this, you must see Jobe during office hours this week. If you're unable to meet with me during office hours, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3l0feGWTi0, or, if you don't find this video helpful, conduct your own YouTube search for tutorial material. Embrace self-directed learning, which will serve you well in life! Additionally, if you want to choose this project but have no prior experience with iMovie or MovieMaker, you should work with somebody in the class who has prior experience or view this video (for iMovie): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPLWNnFy6AM or this video (for MovieMaker): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOE-Sx9QvYA. If you find that neither of these videos is helpful, please conduct your own YouTube search for applicable tutorials. You may also direct your questions my way, but the goal of this is to hone your self-directed learning skills. They will help you immensely in college and beyond.
2. For Option 2 above, this will happen in class either Thursday or Friday, depending upon which day your class meets. If you will not be in class either of those days, you must do this BEFORE you depart for any trip (yes, that means Wednesday, I assume, which still gives you more than enough time)

Requirements:

1. For Option 1, you MUST include text overlays of the song lyrics on your slides, and transitions of images should be, as before, clearly timed to demonstrate your understanding of the song's lyrics. I will NOT require original images, but those who do create their own original images (photographs, illustrations, etc) rather than relying on downloads from the Internet will receive extra consideration. As before, you MUST have a title slide with your name and your school name. Your SECOND SLIDE MUST be an image of the Realidades 3 textbook (which you can download easily), to give them copyright recognition for the content. This is also a test of your ability to follow directions! Significant point deductions will result from failure to follow these basic directions. Finally, this project will NOT be considered turned in on time UNTIL AND UNLESS it is embedded on your e-portfolio (which is your blog!). It is 10% off per day late, and, since this is the third time around for many of you with this kind of project, I will be holding the line on these deductions.
2. For Option 2, I want to be sure that you are clear if you are choosing this option that a superficial rendering of the story will not suffice to score an "A". Option 1 requires a pretty significant outlay of time, and, to be fair to those who choose that option, your preparation will need to be thorough and your delivery both thorough and precise. Since this will be recorded, you will need to practice regularly, including your pronunciation, and I will require you to come into office hours Wednesday to practice in front of me so that I can tell you whether I feel your rendering of the story is worthy of the grade you seek. You will need to arrive at office hours Wednesday already having practiced repeatedly.

I hope you enjoy the opportunity to choose your assessment. Assessments are inevitable - you will take many tests in life. Demonstrate your appreciation for the opportunity to choose how you are assessed with a comment below and you will likely have assessment options again in the future. Also, notice the Poll I have put on our class blog regarding which option you plan to choose. These responses are anonymous and are designed to give me some insight into which direction most of you think at this time you will be headed.

Weekend assignment details

Conner and the traveling folk - down below are photographs of the sheet that was given out in class yesterday.

You have two weekend assignments:

1. Make sure you have the answers to these conjugation sheets (the photographs) 100% correct to show me on Monday or Tuesday, depending upon when your next class meeting is.
2. To help you with Monday's/Tuesday's in-class activities, I want everybody to either take your own original images (highly encouraged, to maximize your homework score) or download->upload images of the following vocab words to post to your blog (EACH of you to EACH blog) along with the words themselves. The images should clearly demonstrate your understanding of the words, which are...

*First off, remember that your blogs are your portfolios of your work, of which you should be proud! All students other than new students must embed BOTH of the last video projects into their blogs. It's easy to do, go to YouTube and find the "Embed" button below the video. Copy all of that HTML text and then go into your blog, hit "New Post," make sure you're in "Edit HTML" mode and NOT "Compose" mode, and paste that copied text. Then hit Publish. These must be posted on your blog by Tuesday at 8 am.

3B Tarea

Español 3B: El jueves en clase van a tener una prueba oral sobre la "Prueba de la Amistad" de la pag. 162 que hicimos en clase el martes. Recomiendo que me escriban respuestas buenas para las preguntas de la encuesta (survey) y que practiquen sus respuestas con un(a) compañero/a de clase.

Ejemplo:
1. Eres considerado/a con los demás?
-> Sí, SOY muy considerado con los demás. (optativa, para los que quieren avanzar más en sus estudios del español: una oración más, como por ejemplo: Si un amigo mío tiene un problema, yo le doy mi apoyo."

The judge has spoken! Based on the decision handed down by my independent judge, who has requested anonymity, Maya Crosby is the winner of the "Tranquila" video project, with José a very close second. Maya's video will be posted on the Marmot blog shortly. The same will apply to the best submission for the next video project. Buena suerte, concursantes!

Reminder on class project

This is a reminder that your Chapter 3 Project - given en lieu of a chapter test - is due, yes, this Thursday (as announced both in class and posted on our class blog on Dec. 19th). 10% off per day for late submissions. BE SURE to read all project requirements and to upload your video to YouTube, then to send me the link. Make sure when uploading to make your video PUBLIC and not private and to include the same kind of title slide as you did for the last project. Suerte...
